Hola, mi gente! Lately, I’ve noticed that there are some authors that I want to read all of their books. I used to think that I wasn’t that type of reader but I have now concluded that I totally am. Today I’m mentioning three authors that I would read all of their books. Anyway, no more blabbering. Let’s go on with the post.
Ashley Herring Blake
I started reading her books this year and completely fell in love with them. I’ve read three of her books and only one them wasn’t a five stars read. Her books are beautiful, queer—except for one,—and heartbreaking. Her topics can be more on the dark side but are written in a respectful way.
The books I’ve read by her are:
Ivy Aberdeen’s Letter to the World: ⭐⭐⭐⭐
The Mighty Heart of Sunny St. James: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Girl Made of Stars: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
I’m missing two of her books but it’s just her next book comes out next year and if I read them now I would have to suffer the wait.
Victoria Schwab/ V.E. Schwab
I love V.E. Schwab! Bless my friends for recommending me her books. If it wasn’t for them I never would’ve given her a chance. Thanks to them I discovered Vicious which is now my all-time favorite book. I loved that book so much that last year, the year I discovered it, I read it four times. Sorry not sorry.
I’m due for a reread of her other books and I can’t remember enough details to give you my clear thoughts so I’ll just talk about Vicious. But first I must say that, like Vicious, A Darker Shade of Magic has morally grey characters which I love. There are no good or bad guys yet you still root for them. People are complicated and nothing, especially people, is just black or white and she does a great job reminding us that in her stories.
Another reason is that Vicious is so easy to read. Her writing style is simple yet beautiful. You forget you’re even reading and because her chapters are so short you keep telling yourself “just one more chapter” only to stay up all night finishing the book.
Books I’ve read by her
A Darker Shade of Magic: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
City of Ghosts which I first gave ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ but I now think I was biased and would give it ⭐⭐⭐⭐
This author became not just an auto-read but also an auto-buy author the moment I read the first chapter of her debut novel If I Was Your Girl. This woman writes the most beautiful, heartbreaking, real, and hopeful stories. She has four books out but two are middle grade about legos. I’m not interested in those but I will read every book she ever comes out that is YA or Adult.
Her stories are just amazing. She truly knows how to write about depression, a person losing hope and struggling to accept who they are, and how to make you feel all that. Her books just grasp you and don’t let go. They’re own-voices for trans women representation which is why they feel so real. Her mastering of these things and of playing with the readers’ emotions while also educating them is why her two YA books are some of my all-time favorite books.
